Escott, Thomas Hay Sweet

Journalist and author. Employed FH on the Fortnightly Review when FH first came to London. FH says Escott wrote a recommendation for him, which, combined with a testimony from Hutton of the Spectator, helped gain him the editorship of the London Evening News at the age of twenty-seven.

Escott was the acting editor of the Fortnightly Review when FH displaced him as editor: FH says he insisted that Escott got a year's salary as he was ill, and needed the money.
