Colonel in the British Army, wrote a famous memoir called The Ride to Khiva. FH said that Burnaby let slip an indiscretion about one of his fellow officers to A. M. Broadley, who made reference to it in a newspaper article. Burnaby was snubbed by his comrades and - according to FH, in consequence - he died in an act of suicidal heroism in the Sudan.
