Hardy, Thomas

Poet and novelist. In his Latest Contemporary Portraits FH reports on Hardy's taste in architecture (Gothic) and his opinion of Mrs Humphrey Ward (not enthusiastic). FH also says he was asked by Hardy for his views on Tess of the d'Urbevilles, to which he responded with an unfavourable analysis of several key scenes. Hardy listened apparently with interest, but unconvinced.
