A lawyer who as a young man acted as Harris' literary agent. Co-author of one of the early biographies, Frank Harris, a Study in Black and White.

Later in his life, Gertz was involved in the defence of Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer against a charge of obscenity. He was also one of Jack Ruby's defence attorneys.
