Forenames
Emily May
Surname
Harris
Second wife of FH. Somewhat older than he was, a rich widow, he married her for her money and position in society. This should not be misunderstood however: she was genuinely attracted to him and used her advantages to win him. At the time he thought the match would bring him happiness and success, but his restless nature and inability to make polite empty conversation with her upper-class friends such as the Duke of Cambridge led to its failure.
Although they lived apart, they were never divorced, the marriage only ending with her death in 1927.
(E Merrill Root in his Frank Harris stated her birth name was "Edith Mary Remington", but as he thereby got both her forenames wrong one can hardly take his word for her surname.)
