German historian. FH says that Ihne and Kuno Fischer persuaded him that at the age of 20 he should enter a German gymnasium (Grammar School) to get a better grounding in the classics before continuing his University career.

FH tells how one day, walking with an English youth who was staying with Ihne, he got into a fracas that resulted in his being jailed for six months. According to FH, he knocked down two assailants, each with a single blow from his bare fist, but the German court refused to believe that such a small man could have performed such a feat: he must have used a weighted stick.
